Suspected DUI Crash Kills 2 in Oklahoma
Posted on September 10, 2014
A Sept. 1 accident in Del City killed two people, reportedly. Furthermore, police detained a 24-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with the crash, which occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on Sunnylane Road, according to authorities.
Authorities reported that a pickup truck hit a Nissan Altima while the car was stopped at a red light. The force of the collision propelled both vehicles into a telephone phone, reportedly. The Altima’s two occupants, a 24-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both died as a result of the crash.
The driver of the pickup suffered injuries in connection with the incident. Officials transported the man, also 24, to OU Medical Center before taking him to Oklahoma County Jail, authorities said.
In addition to DUI, the man faces two counts of manslaughter and other charges. The man reportedly has a previous DUI on his driving record and is purportedly on probation until December. Police indicated that the investigation into the accident is ongoing as they are awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
Reportedly, the 24-year-old woman who died in this accident had two children, and the 24-year-old man who died had one child. If, hypothetically, a preponderance of evidence in this case were to substantiate the accusation that impaired driving caused the fatal car accident, a wrongful death claim may be filed against the at-fault driver, seeking compensation for pecuniary damages suffered by the deceased victims’ families, including lost earnings. For, certain family members of people who die in DUI accidents may be entitled to wrongful death compensation, especially if the decedents had contributed income to dependents or the family household while alive.
