Police Believe Driver was Intoxicated at Time of Crash

Some Oklahoma residents continue to drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs without regard for the innocent people they put in danger. Drugged and intoxicated drivers tend not to pay adequate attention to the road, including traffic signals and signs. Others in or near the roadway, including bicyclists and pedestrians, are thus placed at risk of serious injury due to a preventable accident.

On a recent Saturday night at approximately 7:25 p.m., a southbound sports utility vehicle ran through a stop sign. As it entered the intersection, it crashed into a westbound vehicle that was already in the intersection. When police arrived, the driver of the southbound SUV attempted to leave the scene, and he was taken into custody.

Between the two vehicles, three occupants ended up suffering debilitating injuries that were described as critical. It is not known which vehicle each of the injured was in at the time of the accident. No report was given regarding whether the driver believed to be responsible for the crash suffered any injuries. However, it was noted that he is facing a charge of driving under the influence.

As the criminal proceedings against the allegedly intoxicated driver begin, the three critically injured victims could be facing a significant recovery time. During that time, they will most likely incur a significant amount of medical expenses, lost wages and other damages. Each injured individual retains the right to pursue a personal injury claim against the driver in an attempt to recover some of those financial losses, along with additional damages allowed under Oklahoma law.
