Oklahoma Woman In Custody After Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on May 22, 2014

Car accidents happen almost every day on Oklahoma’s roads and, all too often, they end with someone injured or dead. Some car accidents are just fluke accidents that aren’t really anyone’s fault. Many though are not. Oftentimes, accidents are the result of someone acting negligently when operating their vehicle. Sometimes, this comes in the form of distracted driving or intoxicated driving.

Regardless of an accident’s cause, the last thing you should do is leave the scene of an accident. But many people, fearing the repercussions, do just that. Case in point: an Oklahoma City woman was arrested and is facing a felony hit-and-run charge for allegedly fleeing an accident scene.

Allegedly, the woman was driving a silver car and slammed into a white pickup truck, injuring the pickup truck’s driver. Instead of staying to see if the pickup truck’s driver was OK, the woman allegedly took off. A witness to the accident followed the suspect and called police, alerting them to the whereabouts of the woman.

According to authorities, when police arrived, the woman smelled of alcohol. The woman confessed to driving the silver car and was taken into custody. In addition to the felony hit-and-run charge, she is also facing charges of driving with no state driver’s license and driving under the influence. A $27,000 bail has been set.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with injuries to her shoulder.

If negligence played a role in a motor vehicle accident, an Oklahoma personal injury attorney may, on behalf of accident victims, be able to fight for compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages and any pain and suffering the accident may have caused.
