Oklahoma Motorcyclist Killed in Accident
Posted on September 25, 2014
A Tulsa man traveling on his motorcycle was killed in an accident in Midtown on Sept. 19. According to police reports, the man was riding near an intersection at the time of the incident. He was reportedly turning into the parking lot of a restaurant when another vehicle struck his motorcycle. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Originally listed in critical condition, the hospital reports that the man later died.
The accident caused part of the road to be closed while crews cleared debris and investigated possible causes of the collision. The report did not state whether there were any other injuries involved.
If the investigation shows that poor driving conditions or other visibility factors contributed to the accident, then the driver may not face criminal charges. However, it is possible to move forward with a civil suit when an accident victim suffers serious injury, permanently disability or death.
When an accident results in a fatality, the immediate family of the deceased can take legal action on behalf of the victim. A civil suit may be filed in order to receive compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, lost future wages, and the pain and suffering of the remaining family members. An attorney may be able to help the family of the accident victim by conducting a private investigation to determine liability if the other driver was distracted, for example, or if other factors played into the fatal accident.
