Oklahoma Car Accident Claims 3 Lives
Posted on December 30, 2014
A Christmas Eve car crash took the lives of three Oklahoma residents on the east side of Norman. According to a preliminary investigation by local police, a westbound driver swerved into the eastbound lane causing a head-on collision. The driver of the swerving vehicle died at the scene, and the driver and passenger in the other vehicle later died at an area hospital.
According to police investigators at the scene, there was no indication of alcohol or drug impairment in the fatal car accident. Oklahoma Route 9 was closed for almost five hours while investigators tried to determine the cause of the accident. A source for the Norman Police Department told reporters the holidays are always a particularly difficult time for the families of people involved in traffic accidents as well as the police officers who are called upon to investigate them.
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, the vast majority of all traffic accidents are avoidable. Negligent driver behavior behind the wheel is a leading cause of accidents including car and truck collisions and fatal motorcycle accidents.
In Oklahoma cases such as this, the family may elect to bring a wrongful death lawsuit to seek compensation. They could ask for compensation for the loss of a loved one, funeral expenses, medical expenses incurred during treatment prior to death, and pain and suffering. The ultimate findings of the police report regarding the underlying cause of the accident would likely be a critical determining factor in establishing which party or parties should be liable for compensation to the families of the victims.
