According to law enforcement authorities with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a trooper was injured in a three-car accident that occurred on March 12. The trooper was in his cruiser at the time on Highway 183 north of Davidson.
The trooper had stopped a driver along the highway. As he sitting in his cruiser behind the driver he had pulled over, a pickup truck crashed into the cruiser, according to the report. The force of the impact sent the cruiser crashing into the vehicle the trooper had pulled over.
Emergency responders had to extricate the trooper from the wreckage. He was trapped in his car for about 40 minutes. The man suffered serious personal injuries and was flown via medical helicopter for treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is said to be in critical but stable condition at this time. Reports do not indicate if the drivers of either of the other vehicles were injured in the wreck. The accident forced the closure of the highway for about two hours.
When a person is seriously injured in a car accident caused by a negligent driver, the driver may be held liable through a personal injury lawsuit filed against him or her. Through such a lawsuit, an injured plaintiff may seek damages in order to receive compensation for all of the economic and noneconomic losses incurred. Drivers owe a duty of care to others on the road to remain aware of traffic around them at all times. In the event a breach of this duty causes an accident, they may be found to have acted negligently. Injured victims may want to meet with a personal injury attorney for advice about their own cases.
