Charles Alred Auto Accident AttorneyAccording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, crashes involving large trucks were responsible for a four-percent increase in fatalities and an 18-percent increase in injuries between 2011 and 2012. Large trucks are defined as vehicles with a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds.

In 2011, 3,781 individuals were killed in crashes involving large trucks; in 2012, 3,921 individuals were fatally injured. During this time, there was a nine-percent increase in the amount of people killed while occupying large trucks and a five-percent increase in the number of people killed while occupying other vehicles. The number of individuals killed while not occupying any vehicle decreased by 11 percent.

About 88,000 people were injured in crashes involving large trucks in 2011. In 2012, the amount of injured individuals increased to 104,000. The number of large-truck occupants injured decreased by two percent, while the amount of injuries suffered by individuals occupying other vehicles increased by one percent. The number of injured individuals not occupying any vehicle also rose by one percent.

If an Oklahoma resident is injured in a crash involving a large truck, or a family member is killed in such an accident, a legal representative may be able to obtain recompense for lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages. To try and prove a defendant was negligent, a legal representative may review evidence provided by traffic cameras, witnesses, law enforcement and other authorities. This evidence might then be used to file a claim that will be taken to a court, or the parties involved might reach a settlement without going before a judge.
