2 Drivers Injured in Trucking Accident

Posted on October 29, 2014

Two people in Oklahoma were injured after they were involved in a trucking accident on Oct. 22. The two-car crash happened around 8 a.m. beneath a bridge located in northeast Oklahoma City. Investigators claim that the driver in the semi-truck was attempting to beat a red light when the collision occurred. The driver lost control of the semi while making a turn and landed on the top of an automobile.

According to local reports, witnesses at the scene were able to help the motorist exit the vehicle through the passenger window, and emergency response personnel assisted with pulling the truck driver from the semi by using a ladder and busting through the window. Both drivers were brought to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

A driver in a similar accident who receives injuries due to the actions of another driver may consider filing a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver. In order to collect restitution in a case like this one, an injured driver’s lawyers may need to prove that the trucker or trucking company is liable for the crash.

Truckers and employers may be culpable for damages if legal counsel can prove that negligence was a contributing factor in an accident. Commonly cited examples of driver negligence in a trucking accident include overloading the trailer, poor equipment or vehicular maintenance, reckless driving, fatigue, traffic infractions, speeding, driving while intoxicated and other related violations. Victims injured in these types of accidents may be entitled to recover compensation to offset loss of income, vehicle repair costs and medical expenses caused by the crash.
